The Indians of the San Joaquin Valley were known as Yokuts The word "Yokuts" mean people. The Yokuts were a friendly and peace loving people. The native American Cholbon triblet of the Northern Valley Yokuts were the first inhabitants of Mountain House. The name Mountain House was originated from the Gold Rush era. When miners traveled from San Francisco to the Sierra foothills, they often rested midway at a house called "Mountain House" at the bottom of a range of hills
